...Scottish Romance Smut Novels

Ana Mari here, reporting live from the Scottish Highlands circa any time between 1400–1800 (in my mind).

If you know me, you know I am a big "Outlander" fan. I have watched the entire series at least three times; I even met Sam Heughan, aka Jamie, IRL!

I was an international relations major in college, so I *used* to read mostly non-fiction books about presidents, politics, history, and other such scholarly subjects.

But then 2020 happened.

One night, I Googled "books to read if you love Outlander" and 20 romance novels later, here we are. I am so deep in the Scottish historical-romance novel vortex that I am behind on the "Real Housewives", and I haven't even watched the last season of "Below Deck", which Nikki finds to be absolutely unacceptable, and I can't blame her one bit.

Last night I posted a screenshot of my kindle titles, full of abs and tartans, and my Instagram DMs blew up. It seems many of you are also in search of a distraction of the Scottish hunk variety.

Whether it is Alexander Cameron or Arran Mackenzie, count on these lads to give you a welcome respite from current events. I recommend reading in the tub with a whisky, if you really want to stay on theme.

  • The Highland Groom Series by Julia London: When this "journey" began, I downloaded a bunch of books and my favorite ones were always from this series. It has it all: romance, suspense and, most importantly, a brooding Highlander with a gentle soul. The novels in this series have had some of the better writing, stories and characters in this genre. Plus, the six books feature relatives of the same family so you can revisit your favorite characters.
  • The Pride of Lions by Marsha Canham: This is the first of three books. The first book is lots of fun, the second one gets into the battle of Culloden (spoiler alert: huge downer), so if you want to keep it light, stick to the first one.

If you find anything I should add to my Kindle, sound off in the comments. Also, feast your eyes on this:
